EST. 1832 · A BROTHERHOOD ACROSS GENERATIONS
The official community for generations of RZSians—reconnecting old friends, creating opportunities and giving back to the school that made us.
EST. 1832 · Tradition lives hereEstablished in 1832, Rangpur Zilla School has shaped generations through academic excellence, discipline and service—carrying a proud legacy from colonial Bengal through Bangladesh’s defining movements and into a future approaching two centuries.
Rangpur Zilla School, established in 1832, stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious secondary educational institutions in Bangladesh. Founded during the British colonial era by the local elite and supported by the British administration, it was initially known as "Rangpur Zamindar School." The school was created to spread modern Western education alongside traditional learning in the northern region of Bengal.
In 1862, the British government took over its management, officially renaming it Rangpur Zilla School. Over the decades, the institution transformed from a modest learning center into a major educational powerhouse. Its sprawling green campus, historic red-brick buildings, and academic rigor attracted bright minds from all over the region, establishing a legacy of excellence that has spanned nearly two centuries.
Throughout its history, Rangpur Zilla School has played a significant role in key socio-political movements of Bengal. Its students and teachers actively participated in the Anti-British Swadeshi Movement, the 1952 Language Movement, and the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. The school has produced numerous notable alumni, including renowned scientists, scholars, politicians, bureaucrats, and cultural figures who have contributed significantly to the nation and the world.
Today, Rangpur Zilla School continues to maintain its reputation as a seat of academic tradition and discipline. Operating under the Ministry of Education, it consistently achieves top academic results while fostering sports, cultural activities, and debate, carrying forward a proud legacy that nears 200 years.
